Seven months after the release of their debut album 'Lonely // Lovely’, followed by a series of summer live shows, the Italian/Belgian band You, Nothing is back on the scene with the new single “Lullaby”.
Recorded once again by Michele Zamboni and released by the loyal label Floppy Dischi, 'Lullaby' is the first single to anticipate the band's new album due in 2022.
The quartet's sound has also evolved further: it now comes across as even more cohesive, mature and personal.
About the new single ‘Lullaby’: Lullaby had an atypical genesis compared to our standards for two reasons: the lyrics came before the music, written by Federico, then set to music and arranged with the rest of the band. It is mainly a love song with melancholic overtones, describing this feeling starting from small things, like a smile or holding hands. The lyrics do not have a linear progression, there is no consequentiality of actions, but they are all feelings that arise at a specific moment and are brought to mind in a confused but gentle way. The title refers to music and soft voices that recall the sweetness of a lullaby.
About the video: The video is a collection of shots of the best places and moments of three days spent together in Belgium, between Brussels, Antwerpen and Mechelen, the hometown of Gioia (our singer) and where she currently lives. The dull colors and the autumnal setting evoke the melancholic air of the song. In the video, the panoramic wheel of the Antwerpen pier appears several times, which we also used as the cover of the single itself. A small curiosity: the whole video was shot with just an iPhone 12, and then edited by Federico.
You, Nothing were formed in Verona (IT) on September 2019 from the meeting between the guitarist Federico Costanzi, singer Gioia Podestà and bassist Giulia Cinquetti, later joined by drummer Nicola Poiana. Their debut album "LONELY // LOVELY" was released on 7th May 2021 by Floppy Dischi, Non Ti Seguo Records and Dotto, preceded by the three singles Waves, Reflectie and Gazers. Their sound is mainly inspired by the first shoegaze scene of the 90s (Slowdive above all), made of distorted and ethereal sounds, with the addition of post-punk rhythms. During summer of 2021 the album was finally presented live in Italy, on occasions such as the Soglianoise Festival in Sogliano al Rubicone (FC), sharing the stage with italian bands like Soviet Soviet, Stormo and Marrano and as opening act for The House of Love, known worldwide as one of the first English bands that pioneered shoegaze, at Sexto 'Nplugged in Sesto al Reghena (PN), the day after the live show of Baltazhar. In these recent months, the band has been working between Italy and Belgium due to Gioia's move to Mechelen, creating new inspirations and new sound searches, through the local belgian bands such as the Slowcrush.
