Gezien onze 'kenner' wat dit genre betreft nog even een 'timeout' heeft, zit ik ermee. Weet dat ik in mijn jeugdjaren niets, maar dan ook helemaal niets voelde voor de 'zwarte jongens' van de new wave/gotic rock/post punk. Het was mij allemaal te emo en depri. Maar kijk, doorheen de jaren ben ik wel een aantal van die bands beginnen appreciëren en kan er al eens een half album van genieten. Zo ook van de nieuwe song van het Belgische This Can Hurt. Met Mikaela maken ze zelfs een héél erg toegankelijk nummer dat heerlijk (poppy) in het oor ligt. De vette synth saus en diepdonkere baslijn zorgen er dan weer voor dat de authenticiteit van het gerne bewaard blijft en het geheel lekker '80s aandoet. But hey, ik ken er dan ook nog steeds bitter weinig van hé!
Een nieuw album zit er ook aan te komen.

This Can Hurt was founded by the end of 2015 in Ghent (BE). The band started out as a 100% studio project with only one goal: “Create music without limitations”
After a year of intense songwriting the debut album “Nothing Matters” hit the shelves in March 2017. The album turned out to be a mixture of Rock, Metal, Wave, Industrial and even popmusic. Several reviewers praised the band for having an international standard, throwing in references to the likes of Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative, Deftones, Massive Attack, Sisters Of Mercy…
By mid 2019 This Can Hurt started recording the songs for what would become the successor to ‘Nothing Matters’. By the end of september 12 songs were selected, recorded, mixed and mastered. ‘Worlds Apart’ was set for release.
The band released a limited batch of 200 vinyls on their own ‘Lacienda’ label which was sold out in a mere 2 weeks, giving the band an opportunity to negotiate with several record labels. On the last day of 2019 This can Hurt signed a worldwide deal with UK-based Glasstone Records for the Worlds Apart album.
During the ungoing pandemic, the band started working on a 3rd full album which is nearly finished as we speak. The band decided not to renew the collaboration with Glasstone Records because of Brexit and is currently negotiating with a few labels on the European Mainland.
The first single from the upcoming album ‘Mikaela’ will be an independent release until further notice. The single contains 2 songs: A-side ‘Mikaela’ titletrack of the upcoming album and B-Side ‘Live With Me’ a rework of the Massive Attack song.
