Op 6 februari brachten The Royal Spuds voor het eerst in twee jaar weer een nieuw nummer uit. Nadat ze met de komst van hun laatste ep Unforgotten Lore zich voornamelijk profileerden als een folkrock band, zetten The Royal Spuds met het nummer Alien een serieuze stap richting de folk-punk.
Alien is een nummer dat, op een niet al te serieuze manier, de verschillende issues, die ontstaan bij immigratie, aan de kaak stelt. Het vertaalt de issues van een immigrant die in een nieuwe ongeving terecht komt. Deze omgeving is zo nieuw en vreemd dat hij niet weet hoe en wat te doen.
Ondanks dat het nummer best zware problematiek beschrijft laten The Royal Spuds in hun zelf geproduceerde video clip zien dat Spudrock nooit lang zwaar beladen kan zijn.
Ik wens iedereen sterkte met het niet in de slappe lacht te schieten bij het kijken van de clip.

Door corona hebben The Royal Spuds geen concerten gepland staan. In oktober 2020 zouden er private sessions zijn, deze worden ingehaald zodra het weer mag.

From their start in 2012, The Royal Spuds have been creating their own style of music. This resulted in 2 full albums and 2 EP’s. With the release of the debut-EP “Start your engines” the band introduced their recipe for “Spudrock”. In the following years this EP was followed by the full studio albums, “Wanted drunk ‘n’ alive” and “It’s a Fecking Freakshow”.
At the end of 2018, The Royal Spuds released their latest EP, “Unforgotten Lore”. This released was followed by “The Unforgotten Tour” with shows in small and big venues alike. Unforgettable was the show at the Melkweg in Amsterdam, where The Royal Spuds showed that they know how to fill a venue and throw an epic “Spudrock” party.
“Unforgotten Lore” is a new chapter in the evolution of this South-Holland based band but it sure will not be the last. Be it studio, festival or concert venue, these guys feel at home everywhere.
