Ze komen uit het London van vandaag, maar klinken alsof ze ergens in de jaren zeventig aan de westkust van de V.S. thuis horen. Happiness Is A Bird laat het soort americana horen dat vooral folk en psychedelische invloeden heeft. Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) wordt hieronder al vermeld. De zachte harmonieën doen me zelfs aan Barclay James Harvest denken, niet de muziek op zich natuurlijk.

Following their recent appearance at Jack White’s Third Man Records in Nashville for the 2023 Americana Music Association Festival, cosmic country band The Hanging Stars have today shared their new single and video for ‘Happiness is a Bird’ and announced a run of UK shows. The track is the band’s first new music since their acclaimed 2022 album Hollow Heart which bagged them the Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award at 2022’s AMA UK Awards. ‘Happiness is a Bird’ sees the band continue to ride their distinct brand of cosmic Americana, this time melding Jerry Garciaesque psychedelia with the warm breeze of the Balearic islands. ‘Longing is the greatest gift’ sings frontman Richard Olson in the opening
lines. The lyrics concern the need to cherish the little things in life and to realise the small blessings as important as the big ones. The track was produced by Sean Read at Edwin Collins’ Clashnarrow Studio in Helmsdale, Scotland.
