Zanger Tommy Goffin over dit nummer: "Based on the life of Marquis De Sade, the Shadowlord is a power hungry, lust driven and masochistic noble man that acts above the laws of men. Ever on the lookout for women to abuse in every possible way, he is fully corrupt and has no sinecure whatsoever. Eventually he will meet his timely death but will live on in the memories of mankind as the Shadowlord.
And here we dive into the moshpit again. Up-tempo drums and kick ass riffs are complemented by two insane solos after which the song pace drops with an integrated sample opening up into the ending chorus "Purgatory is where the Shadowlord is crowned"."

“MORDKAUL sound increasingly convincing and know how to elevate the mix between brutality and melody with interesting forays into both Swedish and American death metal, to a true symbiosis" - Review Zware Metalen.
The members of this Belgium-based band share a mutual passion for melodic death metal, and with the dissolution of their former bands, they finalized the songs guitarist Tim Bekaert (ex-Diablo Blvd) had stored away. In May 2020, MORDKAUL’s debut album Dress Code: Blood was recorded with Tommy Goffin (ex-Hell City) on vocals, Vincent Noben (ex-Hell City) and Tim Bekaert on guitars, and Adrian Erlandsson (At The Gates, The Haunted,...) on drums. Mixing and mastering of the album were done by Dan Swano (Opeth, Bloodbath…). Shortly after the recording, Jan Rammeloo (ex-Bliksem, Your Highness) and Tony Van den Eynde (ex-Leng Tch’e) joined forces. Dress Code: Blood was released in January 2021 on Wormholedeath Records. Following the release, several successful and sold-out shows were played to promote the debut album, culminating in the summer of ‘22 with a killer and critically acclaimed performance at Alcatraz Festival (BE).
At the end of the summer of 2022, MORDKAUL returned to the studio to record their follow-up album: Feeding The Machine. Besides the Swedish influence, this album features some compelling US death metal grooves as well. Both Vincent and Tim remained deeply involved during the recordings; however, for live performances, they were replaced by James McIlroy (ex-Cradle of Filth) and Stefan Segers (Dyscordia), respectively. Additionally, Jan has been succeeded by Nicholas Gauwloos (Patroness). To optimize the individual songs, the recording was conducted in two parts. Part 1 was recorded at Project Zero Studio and released digitally in early 2023. Part 2 was recorded in the summer of 2023 at the renowned Galaxy Studios. This led to the signing of a worldwide record deal with Massacre Records.
Their second album, set to be released in September 2024, along with the imminent launch of their first single “They Burn” are poised to elevate the band to new heights, with another performance scheduled at Alcatraz Festival 2024, among many others yet to come.
