Big Loud Records alternative/rock imprint Big Loud Rock announces today the signing of rising indie-rock band mercury. Driven by frontwoman Maddie Kerr, the band makes its label debut today with the potent new single “Trying,” which was premiered with Paste Magazine (...) that describe the track as “devastating and epic, filled with imperfections that will rattle your bones" and "an electrifying portrait of self-doubt and loss.”
“mercury represents everything that Big Loud Rock stands for – unique, artistic expression with a one-of-a-kind sound," shares Big Loud Rock President Greg Thompson.
"I am so honored to be a part of the Big Loud Rock family,” shares Kerr. “They have shown an incredible amount of support and passion toward not only my own project, but music in general. They have an incredibly genuine appreciation for music, and their drive to elevate artistic vision is unlike anything I've seen. They have been amazing and shown so much love and excitement toward me and my art - they put pure and powerful intentions behind everything they do, and I just couldn't be more excited to work with them!"
The band's new single "Trying" plunges into a dreamlike world, cascading from tranquil ambience into waves of melancholy indie rock. Driven by Kerr's gossamer vocals and mixed by Justin Raisen (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Yves Tumor, Charlie XCX), the track finds catharsis in confronting the creeping self-doubt and pressures of growing up.
“I wrote 'Trying' during a really hard point in my life,” Kerr explains. “I began questioning a lot of things and worrying about the future; navigating the feeling that everything was caving in on itself. 'Trying' is a direct reflection of what was going through my head at the time and still is. We are all talking ourselves down from scary places every day. It's important to remember that, have grace for it and continue to do what we can to make it through. What we learn and how we grow when we push through the hard times can come with some of the most beautiful rewards at the end of the day.”
With “Trying” marking a compelling introduction and more new music slated for 2024, mercury adds boundless potential to Big Loud Rock's growing success story. With an impressive track record of signing and developing cutting edge artists like HARDY, Blame My Youth, Letdown., Jagwar Twin, Yam Haus, BIZZY, and more, the label shows no signs of slowing down as mercury joins the roster on-the-rise.
