Adam Michal Darski is de Poolse zanger en gitarist van de blackened-deathmetalband Behemoth. Zijn artiestennaam is Nergal genoemd naar een god uit de Babylonische mythologie. Geen Behemoth dit keer maar donkere folk/blues van Me And That Man.
Drie jaar na Songs Of Love And Death is het tijd voor hun nieuwe album. New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1. Als dit geen ronkende titel is....
We gaan meteen goed van start met het meeslepende Run With The Devil, blues-rock in samenwerking met Jorgen Munkeby .
In Burning Churches brengt de raspende stem van Mat McNerney een mooie meerwaarde.
Een leuk weetje, in 2007 scheurde Darski een bijbel aan flarden, waarbij hij de uitgescheurde pagina's in het publiek wierp. Hij noemde het Christendom, de grootste criminele sekte. De fans staken de uitgescheurde pagina's in brand. Er werd een rechtszaak tegen hem aangespannen, maar daar de rechter oordeelde dat dit gebeurde onder de noemer kunst, werd Darski vrijgesproken.
Een ander sterk nummer met veel soul is het donkere Surrender. Samen met Dead Soul en Rob Caggiano zorgt Nergal ervoor dat velen zich zullen overgeven op de tonen van Surrender en nieuwsgierig worden naar de andere songs.
Als afsluiter krijgen we de country ballade Confession, samen met Niklas Kvarforth dompelt Darski de fans onder in een sfeer van de Spaghetti Western.
Mijn algemene indruk is even positief dan bij hun debuut album. Het is duidelijk dat alle extra artiesten een erg goede invloed hadden op dit album.
Een donker album dat vraagt om meer....
