Sounds | Grayson Capps - Early Morning Rain

As Grayson explains: "I grew up with music, whether hearing Fred Stokes, Bobby Long and my dad, Ronnie Capps, singing around the house on Fridays and Saturdays, or listening to vinyl records in the den, my youth seemed to always be surrounded with music."

Grayson recorded the collection at Dauphin Street Sound in Mobile, Alabama in a duo format with his longtime guitarist Corky Hughes. The performances are gritty, honest and direct. Among the album's 16 often overlooked, but always classic folk, country and traditional numbers are those by Doc Watson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Leonard Cohen and Randy Newman.

Grayson first heard these songs as a child when his father and his friends would spend Fridays and Saturdays playing records, strumming acoustic guitars and singing songs until sunrise. They'd catalyze Grayson's love for music at a young age, while informing the Southern Gothic vernacular that he’d go onto so eloquently explore and reimagine in his own body of work.
