Sounds | Frantic Amber - Black Widow

Met de combinatie van een 7-string gitaar en een 5-string bass kan je je geluid loodzwaar laten klinken. Iets wat de dames van Frantic Amber dan ook ten volle benutten. Dit is echt zware, diepe death metal met toch ook voldoende oog voor melodie. Persoonlijk zou ik het nog beter hebben gevonden als er nog wat meer dramatiek in verwerkt zou zitten. Daarmee bedoel ik nog iets meer symfonische strijkers en waarom ook niet wat koorzang.

Maar zoals het nu klinkt, is het ook al bijzonder mooi en tenslotte, wie ben ik? De release van deze video voor Black Widow gaat gepaard met de release van hun nieuwe album Death Becomes Her (Roar Records). Het is een conceptalbum geworden over seriemoordenaars en dat zijn daarom, zoals de single laat horen, niet noodzakelijk altijd mannen. Er zijn me dunkt vrolijkere onderwerpen om over te zingen, maar bij zo'n laag gitaargeluid en die onheilspellende grunts van Elizabeth Andrews past het uiteraard wel.

The band writes: "We are super excited for the release of our new album "Death Becomes Her" and to finally share what we have passionately been working on for a long time. This is a dark, melancholic and brutal album where we delve into twisted female serial killers. Each song has its own bone-chilling vibe and we hope you enjoy it."

“Death Becomes Her” is a concept album about female serial killers and includes different kinds of killers and categories of serial killers," the band comments. "Black Widow" is a category of female killers that kill for financial or material gain. Their victims are most commonly their husbands or lovers and likely with a life insurance or two involved. Oftentimes she goes free to kill again since she mainly uses poison which can have similar symptoms to natural causes of death, paired with the societal belief that women are soft and don't kill… The Black Widow's greatest weakness and most probable downfall is her greed. With a grand expenditure and lifestyle she must repeatedly turn to killing and eventually suspicion and autopsies arrive.

The song “Black Widow” is a quite catchy song blending multiple metal genres such as thrash and symphonic metal. The lyrics are a reflection of this kind of female serial killers drawing inspiration from the stories of various women around the world fitting this category. It was the third song we wrote to completion for the album and it was released as a single but a brand new music video for the song now drops together with the release of our album “Death Becomes Her”.
