La leggenda di Chong Li follows up the band's 2018 debut Suki Yaki Hot!, reaching far beyond that album's garage-punk-surf mold. Following a sonic and narrative arc, La leggenda di Chong Li builds on the old sound with elements of exotica and spaghetti western, and with production qualities reminiscent of a rich Orbison record, to create its own Wall of Sound coupled with an other-worldly cinematic experience. Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Jon Hanusa (Jonny Canine, Jonny Glissando), bassist/vocalist Eric Arsnow (Eric Incisor, Erico Bello), percussionist/drummer Chuck Engel (Chuck Molar, Chazz Bolognese), and saxophonist Caleb Westphal (il Snaggletoots), Devils Teeth generally pull inspiration from artists such as Dick Dale, Man or Astro-Man?, and The Sonics, but reach beyond their surf/garage/punk roots with La leggenda di Chong Li, infusing those elements with inspiration from Spaghetti Western soundtracks and Bloodsport.
