Ik zou liegen als ik zeg dat ik een fan ben van death metal. Bij het horen van die twee woorden gaat mijn neus bijna spontaan krullen. Waarom? Ik kan het eigenlijk zelf niet benoemen. Het werkt gewoon niet voor mij. Naar mijn algemeen gevoel mis ik wat diepgang in dat subgenre. Het komt bij mij niet voldoende binnen en daarom is death metal een genre die ik eigenlijk altijd links laat liggen.
Alhoewel? Altijd? Ook dat zou een leugen zijn.
Als ik naar mijn platenkast kijk, zie ik toch twee deathmetalplaten staan. Beiden van dezelfde band. Het Deense BAEST. Een uitzondering dus. Eerder dit jaar brachten ze hun derde album 'Necro Sapiens' uit en nu kondigen ze de komst van hun nieuwe EP 'Justitia' aan. Bij die aankondiging ook meteen ook een single van op die EP.
‘Ecclesia’. Voor mij een schot in de roos. Ik hou ervan hoeveel verschillende ‘lagen’ dit nummer heeft. Heerlijke riffs, aandachtstrekkende solo’s en een dynamiek die gedurende acht minuten verschillende keren verandert.
Zo'n nummer die zelfs na een uur op repeat nog niet verveelt.

After BAEST celebrated the release of their current long-player "Necro Sapiens" only a few months ago, the death metal powerhouse from Denmark is already in the starting blocks with their new single “Ecclesia”. Accompanied by an energetic live performance clip the band presents an equally epic and heavy Death Metal banger!
Furthermore, the band announces their upcoming EP release Justitia that the guys are currently working on with full throttle.

Recorded live in Lundgaard Studio, we continued the style of our 3rd record, emphasising our natural flow and groove, striving to make catchy
and timeless heavy metal. Ecclesia marks a creative and musical challenge, that we set for ourselves after the release of Necro Sapiens. We wanted to test our abilities and challenge ourselves and our listeners. How far can we push our sound, and how diverse can our releases be? Be the judge.”
