Aha, eindelijk hoor ik vrij zware doom metal, toch de eerste vijftig seconden. Daarna wordt het even héél mooi rustig, met een folk vibe, soms neigend naar het theatrale. Cirkel rond tijdens de laatste minuut. Neem de drie reeds uitgebrachte nummers samen en je kan je afvragen: wat in hemelsnaam spoken die van Avatarium uit? Niet dat ze de weg die oprichter Edling had uitgezet strikt moeten blijven volgen - het zijn volwassen mensen hé, ze doen wat ze zelf willen - maar de manier waarop ze afwijken en genres willen blenden doet mij toch in het weinige hoofdhaar krabben dat ik nog heb. Ik ben er nog niet uit of ik dit nu een miskleun vind, of net een avontuurlijk vervolg op hun laatste album. Nog wat geduld hebben en blijven luisteren dus.

Almost 10 years ago, Candlemass legend Leif Edling made the doom metal world a darker and ultimately more interesting place with new band, Avatarium. Over the next eight years the band released four criticially acclaimed studio albums, two EPs, and a live DVD, An Evening With Avatarium – Live in Stockholm. Edling eventually left Avatarium ranks due to health issues, but the band forged onward, and 2022 finds them capping off a prolific decade with their brand new album and AFM Records' debut, Death, Where Is Your Sting, slated for a release on October 21st.
After the Stockholm-based collective shared previously-released songs, "God Is Silent" as well as the epic album title track, a haunting black&white lyric video has dropped for third single, aptly titled "Stockholm". Exceptional vocalist, Jennie-Ann Smith, reveals:
