Toen John me vroeg of ik het nieuwe album van Aether Realm wou reviewen, had ik eerst mijn twijfels. Ik herkende de naam van de band, wist dat ik hen ooit al eens als voorprogramma had gezien en dat ik niet bepaald fan was. Eenmaal ik dan toch de nieuwe singles van de band had beluisterd, wou ik dit album maar al te graag een kans geven. En met een titel als Redneck Vikings From Hell… hoe kan je dit nu geen kans geven? Doorheen het album krijg je verschillende stijlen te horen. Na wat folk in het eerste nummer en wat meer trash in Lean into the Wind, komen we aan bij mijn favoriet van het album; Hunger. Een melodisch en snel nummer met veel power op vlak van muziek, dat geopend wordt met een stevige scream. Hierna gaan we een rustigere toer op met Guardian, waarna One Hollow World dan weer eerder medieval klinkt. Verder kan je nog wat typische melodic death en zelfs een whimsical nummer verwachten. Het album afsluiten doet de band met een elf minuten durende instumental track, waarin je zowat al deze verschillende elementen kan terughoren. Redneck Vikings Fom Hell is dus een hele muzikale belevenis, waarin je vele verschillende invloeden kan verwachten. Van folky met banjo’s naar vrolijke melodieuze- en powernummers, naar pure melodic death en prachtige rustige tracks. Voor iedereen wat wils en telkens compleet met een heel sterke tekst. Met Hunger als kers op de taart (no pun intended), kan ik zeggen dat ik zeker heb genoten van dit album.
