On Saturday I discovered a total new music genre for me. Wardruna was described to me as 'Viking music', being known for their participation on the soundtrack of the series Vikings, but there was much more to it. After being strongly acclaimed by the crowd when they came on stage, Wardruna delighted the public with their Norwegian folk played on tribal drums and a collection of Nordic traditional instruments, with their very sober staging. The main singer Einar, centring the public’s attention on him for the first songs, sang with his beautiful emotional voice, accompanied by the harmonies sang by Lindy Fay Hella. There was an intimate atmosphere throughout the show, created with the contrasts between lights and shadows, but also with individual lighting and calculated shadowing and colouring to specifically illuminate the singer or musician that was soloing, meanwhile being this light setting a challenge for photographers.
