Ancienne Belgique hosted on Saturday the extraordinary musician Avishai Cohen, contrabassist and singer, in his Trio formation with the ideal sparring partners Guy Moskovich, the up-and-coming Jazz pianist and composer from Israel, and the fabulous drum sensation Roni Kaspi.
The new formation with the new pianist kept the audience thrilled and vibing with the songs of their new album “Shifting Sands”. The musicians seemed utterly at ease communicating with each other through the music, even through the energetic solos presented by the talented Roni Kapsi that delighted everyone. Cohen also enchanted the fans with virtuosic solos and percussive play on the body of his instrument, as well as with a piece singing solo. A highlight of the evening came when they even got the audience to dance by covering their own version of Summertime, said to had just been practised during sound check.
The Trio played several encores ending the show with the song from a past album Seven Seas, and surprising the public by staying at the CD booth signing CDs.
In live performance, this Trio is hard to beat.
