Fotoverslag | Against The Current + LØLØ + Call Me Amour – Ancienne Belgique

Ancienne Belgique was invaded last Friday by a pop-rock lover crowd, eager to see the Americans Against The Current. After having been touring in Asia, they kickstarted the European part of their Nightmares & Daydreams tour at a half empty AB. The first time I discovered this band myself was with their soundtrack of the League of Legends-World Championship, “Legends Never Die”, to soon after find out they had been doing covers in YouTube for a while. Starting with Frontwoman Chrissy Costanza together with the rest of the band put on a very colorful and fun show, trying to transport us to the future although that didn’t make much sense to me, mixed with some soft and melodic songs like “Almost forgot” and “Chasing ghosts”, giving some space for the drummer to pick up an acoustic guitar as well, and ending with an encore including the Legends Never Die and Weapon. Starting with their songs “Good guy” and “Wildfire”, the audience didn’t seem to get too engaged and Chrissy’s energy, who was given her everything to her audience, until the first notes of “Blindfolded” came along and the crowd started to finally jump along. The support acts for ATC, as the crowd were cheering at them were the Canadian singer-songwriter LØLØ and Call Me Amour. LØLØ gained popularity on TikTok for reimagining influential music hits that she used towards the end of her set with the popular “I Love It”, from Icona Pop, or even sneaking into “Faceplant” one of the most known verses of “Mr. Brightside”. LØLØ seemed to connect a lot better with the young audience that waited patiently at the end of the show to get a signed vinyl and a selfie with her. Call Me Amour on the other hand, although claiming of not having released yet their debut EP, were a good warmup for what still was a quite empty venue. Frontman Harry Radford tried to make the audience dance from the first song, and they succeeded at keeping everyone entertained to the point where he dragged his microphone down to the floor, and we were encouraged to bring forth our phone lights, to help them record a music video with pieces of videos recorded in every show, in a very moving and emotive experience.
