Concerttip | Aeonion Sorrow - Hell

AEONIAN SORROW formed by the Greek female singer/songwriter Gogo Melone in September 2015 and later on she joined forces with the drummer Saku Moilanen (Red Moon Architect), vocalist Alejandro Lotero (Exgenesi), guitarist Taneli Jämsä (Red Moon Architect) and bassist Pyry Hanski (Before the Dawn) in order to record a studio album.

The long-awaited single “Forever Misery” came out two years later on October 20th, 2017. This was a song taken from the band’s debut album which was untitled at that time. With its heavy sound, dark miserable beauty and the interesting structure between the growls and unique voice of Gogo, the single managed to leave very good impressions and prepare the ground for the full length release.

During the summer of 2018 and after a few lineup changes, Aeonian Sorrow started to play shows and festivals around Europe. In April 2019 the band had a successful European tour with Swallow The Sun and Oceans of Slumber and shortly after that it was again time to start composing their next materials.

Through the next few years the band will take a short break in order to focus on their next album release and future plans however in 2021 they supported Wolfheart in Switzerland and then performeda few festivals. Finally and after a lot of work, their next single “Anemos” is getting out on July 11th, 2023, a song taken from the forthcoming album “Katara”.

Katara, same as Anemos, are both Greek words with special meanings while the whole written/recording process of the album happened across different times and places for reasons that the songwriter Gogo explains very well below.

Gogo: “On a personal level, I’ve been through enough difficult changes in my life that it almost made it impossible to keep myself motivated to complete this album. I said several times that I don’t want to do this and I almost didn’t. But then I remembered the reason I started this band or the promise I gave to the grandmother I lost in 2020 and I said that “Katara” album will be recorded in her memory and her husband’s memory, my grandfather. It will be done for all the years I spent driving to those scary “Katara” roads to go see them. It will be done for each song I wrote inside their empty house when they were gone and I left to watch the walls and nothing more. On a music level, I think the band has also been through enough and faced the financial critical moments to where we had to take choices, a bit unusual for us, and find ways to make things happen without losing ourselves and our quality. The path to success is full of heavy stones and very lonely so we do what we can and what we can do is to write music and talk about the Aeonian Sorrow. I have nothing more to give except putting my pain in every song of this record.”

“Katara” album will be revealed in its entirety on November 1st, 2023 while beginning of the month the band will be touring again across Europe. Prepare yourselves for an autumn melancholy. A mourning fall.
