Perfect Plan is een Zweedse melodieuze rockband uit Örnsköldsvik, opgericht in 2014. Vocalist Kent Hilli is bekend van zijn werk met Giant en zijn soloprojecten. De band, die verder uit keyboardspeler Leif Ehlin, gitarist Rolf Nordström, bassist Mats Byström en drummer Fredrik Forsberg bestaat, heeft eerder drie albums uitgebracht: All Rise (2018), Time for a Miracle (2020), en Brace For Impact (2022). Dit vierde studioalbum markeert een hoogtepunt in de muzikale carrière van de band. Het bevat een mix van klassieke AOR-invloeden en een modern geluid.
Heart Of A Lion opent krachtig met een rijk, vol geluid en harmonieuze achtergrondzang. Het snelle AOR-getinte Too Tough zet je klaar voor het crescendo opbouwende We Are Heroes, dat gewijd is aan alledaagse helden. Je voelt een vibe van Whitesnake vloeien in All Night dankzij de een meeslepende zanglijn. Ook One Touch is een klassieker met een sterke melodielijn en radiovriendelijke sound.
Het tempo zakt in My Unsung Hero, een ballad met veel emotie en een intieme sfeer. Het stevige At Your Stone sluit de plaat af, opnieuw met een snufje Whitesnake.
Het album is een erg knappe verzameling van krachtige melodieën, scherpe productie en Kent Hilli’s uitzonderlijke vocale prestaties. Het grijpt terug naar de sound van hun eerste albums met een mix van Survivor, Foreigner en Europe. Hoewel het geen baanbrekende vernieuwing is, is het een meesterlijk uitgevoerd album dat melodieuze rockfans zeker zal aanspreken.

“Heart of a Lion” is a powerful statement from the band offering the absolute best songwriting and production ever a: strong offering, with roots very well planted in the 80’s AOR sound. Produced by the band in collaboration with Mårten Eriksson, the band was determined to top the musical results they reached until now and took a few months – from the end of 2024 – to come out with the right musical material.
Sometimes the stars align, and the result is absolutely stunning: a perfect balance of energy and unforgettable melodies is what you are going to find in “Heart of a Lion”. Perfect Plan come to offer the “perfect” (pun intended) combination: a superb singer, a well-oiled band of experienced players, and a great songwriting talent with a knack for unforgettable melodies and driving rhythms. While in their previous records Perfect Plan looked sometimes for a harder edged approach, this time they matured and crafted an outstanding piece of work which, while pays tribute to the obvious references to the sound of the classics and Scandinavian AOR, has an absolutely recognizable and personal feel.
