Ik vrees dat Hiraeus wel eens die band zou kunnen zijn die nèt te laat komt en daardoor bestempeld dreigt te worden als 'meelopers'. Te laat waarvoor, vraagt u?
Te laat in de lichting van de female fronted melodeath/metalcore bands die de jongste jaren in opkomst zijn. Zoals bij zovele dingen des levens is het vaak een kwestie van timing...
In september 2020 valt de Duitse melodic deathmetalband Dawn of Disease uit elkaar. Te zeggen, het was hommeles tussen zanger Tomasz Wisniewski en de rest van de band. Die overige leden besluiten samen verder te gaan maar daar is dan wel een nieuwe groepsnaam en frontpersoon voor nodig. De eerste werd Hiraes en de tweede werd gevonden in de persoon van Britta Görtz, een dame met de looks van een coole rockchick en de strot van een zichzelf respecterende schrikdraad.
Nadat er eerder al enkele videosingles op ons werden losgelaten (waar wij toch wel wat enthousiast over waren) is het nu tijd voor hun volledige debuutalbum, Solitary.
Muzikaal horen wij duidelijke invloeden van Amon Amarth, At The Gates, Arch Enemy en Spoil Eninge.
In vergelijking met die laatste twee zit er in de vocale prestaties van Mevr Görtz te weinig variatie. Het had, zeker tijdens bepaalde muzikale stukken, beter gepast indien ze zou proberen om haar grunts eens af te wisselen met cleane vocalen.
Solitary is zeker geen slecht album en zal bij de liefhebbers van het genre zeker in de smaak vallen. En het is natuurlijk mogelijk dat de sound van Hiraes nog zal evolueren. Op dit moment zien we hen echter nog niet in de premier league meedraaien.
