De Amerikaanse blues- en rockgitarist brengt ons het album Crown. Ondanks dat Eric Gales af en toe de looks heeft van een rapper is dit zeker niet wat je moet verwachten. Stevig en sterk gitaarwerk van de bovenste plank daar kan je wel zeker van zijn. Een leuk weetje is dat hij rechtshandig is maar hij heeft zich aangeleerd om ook linkshandig te spelen. Als sessiemuzikant zal je hem waarschijnlijk veel tegenkomen op platen van andere artiesten. Maar nu is het Gales beurt om de hoofdrol op te eisen.
De opener Death Of Me doet je even dromen van een nieuwe Jimi Hendrix song.
I Want My Crown, samen met Joe Bonamassa brengt Gales ons een funky blues nummer. Genieten geblazen tijdens de battle van deze giganten.
Too Close To The Fire is met zijn zeven minuten de langst durende song van dit album, maar dit blues nummer verveelt geen seconde.
Take Me Just As I Am met de backing vocals van La Donna Gales is een soulful nummer waar deze dame toont dat een backing vocal ook op de voorgrond kan treden.
Langzaam komt het verhaal tot leven in de trage, doch emotionele song I Found Her.
We worden getrakteerd op drie instrumentale nummers zoals, Rattlin'Change, Cupcakin' en Had To Dip. Mooi maar te kort, hier kan men zeker nog iets moois van maken.
Met Crown krijgen we 16 klasse song, ja inderdaad de drie instrumentale nummers verdienen zeker ook hun plaats op dit album. Producers Joe Bonamassa en Josh Smith leveren zorgen er samen met Eric Gales voor dat veel van deze songs meer dan hun deel airplay zullen krijgen. Hopelijk kunnen we ons Belgenlandje hier ook van overtuigen. Een topper !

Eric Gales grew up in a musical family with four brothers, two of them who learned to play the guitar upside down and left-handed in the same fashion that Eric does. Eric released
his first record at Age 16 for Elektra records to an amazing response from the media and music fans around the globe.
Guitar World Magazine’s Reader’s Poll named Eric as “Best New Talent,” in 1991. After recording a second record for Elektra, all three brothers teamed up for The Gales Bros.
“Left Hand Brand” which was recorded for the House of Blues label in 1996.
Through the years, it would not be unusual to look out in the audience and see artists like Carlos Santana, Eric Johnson, B. B. King, and Eric Clapton, looking on with interest as Eric took his guitar and worked crowd after crowd into a frenzy. The new millennium presented fresh opportunities for Eric. He was signed to a deal with Nightbird Records which was affiliated with the Hendrix family and distributed through MCA/Universal. Under this deal, Eric recorded the critically acclaimed record “That’s What I Am” in 2001 and hit the road, mesmerizing fans around the world with his uncanny connection to his guitar.
In 2006 Eric recorded the CD “Crystal Vision” for Shrapnel Records and set the stage for his Blues Bureau Division follow-up, “The Psychedelic Underground”. In 2010 Eric released the critically successful album "Relentless" following it up with the equally powerful album “Transformation”. In 2014 a spiritually renewed Eric Gales released “Good For Sumthin’”. Released by Cleopatra Records and produced by Raphael Saadiq. His follow up project was the Double Live CD/DVD “A Night on the Sunset Strip” in 2016. From there Eric signed with Mascot Label Group in 2017. He has released two albums on this label, 2018’s “Middle of the Road” and 2019’s “The Bookends” both deeply personal and introspective works.
