Hunter Gatherer is veruit het stevigste, zwaarste en meest agressieve album dat Avatar tot nu toe gemaakt heeft. Ik kwam dan ook totaal uit de lucht gevallen toen de band Silence in the Age of Apes uitbracht. Dit had ik niet zien aankomen, maar man wat klonk (en klinkt) dat nummer goed! Dit werd dan ook meteen de opener van het nieuwe album. Colossus met Corey Taylor (Slipknot) was dan ook weer een leuke verrassing. Het nummer dat mij persoonlijk het meest aanspreekt is dan weer A Sectret Door; de sereniteit in Johannes zijn stem tijdens de strofes en dan weer de plotse kracht bij het refrein is gewoon zalig om naar te luisteren. Nog een aantal "whoa whoa's" maken dit prachtige nummer ook gewoon af. Als je dan weer meer een fan bent van echte "in-your-face"-nummers, dan zijn Justice en When All But Force Has Failed zeker iets voor jou. Het is dus wel even wennen aan deze nieuwe stijl van Avatar. Maar ik kan je garanderen dat ook jij als trouwe fan overtuigd kan worden van dit album als je het enkele luisterbeurten geeft. Ik ben van een aantal nummers van de eerste keer al volledig weggeblazen, maar anderen hadden (voor mij persoonlijk) wat meer tijd en aandacht nodig om echt door te dringen. En heel eerlijk? Dit album is gewoon een muzikaal meesterwerk, het zoveelste voor deze band. Vandaar dat zij ook een ereplaats hebben op mijn patch vest!
