All For Metal wist mij met hun eerste album, Legends, meteen omver te blazen. Dat de band een jaar later hun tweede album al uitbrengt, is straf, maar wekte mijn curiositeit weer op. Deze Gods Of Metal (Year Of The Dragon) is dat tweede album. Na intro Cry For Help begint deze meteen stevig met twee zeer catchy titeltracks. Zowel Gods Of Metal als Year Of The Dragon laten je horen wat band in hun mars heeft en dat stelt niet teleur!
Een nummer dat er dan met kop en schouders bovenuit steekt voor mij is The Way Of The Samurai. Deze hele track is echt gewoon pure powermetal en bevat zowat alle elementen die nodig zijn; strakke riffs met een hoog Iron Maiden gehalte, een super catchy refrein met leuke melodie, scheurende gitaarsolo's, een epische bridge, whoa-oh-oh's,... ik krijg er geen genoeg van! Een topnummer dus. Naast epische nummers, staan er ook enkele rustigere tracks op het album. Path Of The Brave is er zo eentje; een ballad gevuld met enorm veel emotie. Deze heeft een beetje hetzelfde effect als Legends Never Die had bij het vorige album, zeer mooi dus.
Verder is er voor mij niet echt een nummer dat er nog tussenuit springt, maar dat is niet per se om een slechte reden. Elke track klinkt gewoon goed en heeft elementen die voor iets extra zorgen. Zo heb je de geweldige solo bij Temple Of Silence, het strakke ritme in het refrein bij Like Thor And Loki en de geweldige stem van Laura Guldemond bij Valkyries In The Sky, maar niets dat er écht bovenuit steekt. Ook vind ik persoonlijk dat je een nummer met als titel “Welcome” niet als voorlaatste op een album zet, maar eerder als eerste na de intro. Ik denk ook oprecht dat deze track daar heel goed tot uiting gekomen zou zijn, want het klinkt gewoon zeer sterk. Het komt alleen een beetje vreemd over zo, wanneer je bijna gaat afsluiten, maar soit, dat is mijn mening.
Het album wordt wel alleen maar beter, hoe vaker ik er naar luister. De eerste keer dat ik het beluisterde, leek het namelijk alsof enkel The Way Of The Samurai echt ging blijven hangen. Vanaf de tweede à derde luisterbeurt kon ik echter merken dat ik de meeste nummers al onbewust mee aan het neuriën was. Ja, deze band weet toch echt wel hoe ze hun muziek catchy moeten maken. Gods Of Metal (Year Of The Dragon) staat dan ook vol met geweldige powermetal en met alle bijhorende elementen die je maar zou willen. Maar, allee ja, kijk naar die album cover. Als je zoiets ziet, dan kan je ook niets anders verwachten, right? Toch wel weer een aanrader dus!
